Local Plan Required
Yes
Plan Name
Erosion and Sediment Control Plan; Stormwater Management Plan per SFWMD ERP

Local Inspection Requirements

Requirements
City inspects construction sites. SFWMD conducts ERP compliance inspections. Post-construction systems require maintenance entity and recorded covenant.

No state-specific certification required; CPESC/CESSWI recognized

Special Overlay Zones

Coastal Zone / Intracoastal Waterway
Trigger: Properties along the Atlantic Ocean, Intracoastal Waterway, or New River
Restriction: Enhanced water quality treatment for coastal discharge; seawall/bulkhead requirements; marine turtle lighting restrictions during nesting season
Wellfield Protection Zone
Trigger: Properties within the Prospect Wellfield or other drinking water wellfield zones
Restriction: Restricted land uses; enhanced stormwater treatment; no hazardous materials storage; infiltration BMPs may be restricted to protect groundwater

Design Manual

Manual Name
SFWMD ERP Applicant's Handbook Volume II / Broward County Water Management Standards

Jurisdiction Notes

Fort Lauderdale's extensive canal system (the 'Venice of America') means most properties have direct hydrologic connectivity to tidal waters. The high water table (often < 2 ft below grade) and porous limestone make infiltration both beneficial for groundwater recharge and risky for water quality. Exfiltration trenches are the most common BMP.

Remember: These local requirements are in addition to the FDEP state construction permit. Both must be satisfied before breaking ground.
